Stored Pressure Fire Extinguishers

Stored pressure fire extinguishers contain a pressurized extinguishing agent such as water, dry chemical or carbon dioxide and a propellant such as nitrogen or compressed air. When the extinguisher is activated, the propellant forces the extinguishing agent out of the nozzle and onto the fire. Stored pressure fire extinguishers are available in a variety of sizes and types, each designed to extinguish a specific type of fire. Water fire extinguishers are effective against Class A fires which involve ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper and cloth. Dry chemical fire extinguishers are effective against Class A, Class B (flammable liquids) and Class C (energized electrical equipment) fires. Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are effective against Class B and Class C fires, but they can also be used on Class A fires if they are small enough.
