Gas Cartridge Fire Extinguisher

A gas cartridge type of fire extinguisher is a portable fire fighting device that operates using a gas cartridge or cylinder to expel the extinguishing agent when activated. Unlike the more common stored pressure fire extinguishers which store both the extinguishing agent and the propellant under pressure in a single container, cartridge-operated fire extinguishers separate the two components. These fire extinguishers are designed for specific applications and are often used in environments where there is a need for a longer discharge range or when a higher discharge pressure is required. They are commonly found in industrial settings, on construction sites and in areas where there may be a risk of larger fires. The operation of a gas cartridge fire extinguisher typically involves pulling the safety pin, squeezing the operating lever and activating the puncturing mechanism to release the gas which in turn expels the extinguishing agent. The expelled agent is then directed toward the fire to suppress it.
